I am pragmatic about the UK party system. I voted Lib Dem in 2019, but I have to trust now that Labour will have our backs. Although both have abandoned the idea of rejoining the European Union.
Like nearly two million other british citizens, the Tories derobed me of the right to vote in the EU Ref of 2016 because I had been living in France for more than fifteen years.
Conservatives care more about money than people. They forced brexit through by proroguing parliament. They privatised everything, and stand as far back from actually governing as possible.
Twitter has been wrecked by Elon Musk so I now comment here on Reddit. Like all armchair politicians, I could offer an opinion on just about anything, but Brexit and T.Rump have increased the need to care about the sources we consult. Long live the experts! Hard facts are hard to come by when loudly-held opinions carry more weight than meekly understood truth.
I've been a database developer, a systems analyst, and a video technician, bottle washer and a freelance translator. I was educated at a minor English public school, went to university to do the wrong subject, and changed tack soon thereafter. At 22, I went to study in France π«π· thanks to Erasmus, and ended up living there for 18 years. This dual-country perspective and my heritage have made me staunchly pro-European πͺπΊ.
Originally from the Pale of Settlement bordering Russia π·πΊ and Poland π΅π±, my family fled to London π¬π§ and Amsterdam π³π± at the beginning of the twentieth century. A generation later, many of them ended their days at the hands of another murderous regime. And a hundred years later, Russia is once again agitating, this time with its neighbour Ukraine.
I like gardening. See my Plants database.
